Spectrum CBT therapists are experts in exposure therapy

Exposure therapy is a specific type of behavior therapy that requires specialized training above and beyond traditional CBT. Exposure therapy is often erroneously described as a way of "facing your fears".  People with anxiety face their fears every day, but the ways they face it have become painful and counterproductive. Exposure therapy involves procedural learning (like learning an instrument or riding a bike), that teaches individuals specific ways to handle anxiety better; to become stronger and more resilient to anxiety.

More eFFective Therapy

Exposure and response prevention (ERP) is a subtype of exposure therapy that is specifically created for OCD.  A central concept in learning theory is that avoidance and/or "safety strategies" (i.e. compulsions) strengthen the OCD cycle. ERP is built to teach individuals new ways of coping or relating to their experience that promote healthier responses instead of compulsions. At Spectrum, we heavily integrate mindfulness based concepts into ERP, as newer clinical trials suggest that this maybe beneficial and improve adherence to treatment.
